Recently, I agreed to review Susan Masino’s book on Aussie hard rockers AC/DC for Louder Than War.
I doubt that there is a fan anywhere, of any band, who has such an encyclopaedic knowledge of the band than Masino. Every record, every tour, every relevant moment is captured. Such detail has to be admired.
This assignment was, for me, a real challenge though. I’m not a fan of the band – never have been. I find their music a bit primitive and each song sounds like the one before. And the lyrics and song themes – my God, they are from the stone age. Talk about blatant sexism. C’est la vie. I’m sure they aren’t losing sleep over my views.
It did make it tough to review the book. I had to put any illogical animosity to one side and try to be as objective as possible. Ultimately, I suppose I found it a really developmental activity. I tend to write about what I like or what interests me. It’s an interesting challenge to write about something that doesn’t fit in with those ideals.
Anyway, check out the review via the link above. And let me know what you think.
