2020 is spoiling us. Only June and we have had a dozen (to my very limited knowledge) extremely good albums released. I can recall some years where there weren’t that many over the course of the whole year. It never fails to amaze me that my good friend Lippy Kid can produce a musical advent with 24 of them every December!
The latest release to get me excited was Set My Heart On Fire Immediately by Perfume Genius. Released on Matador, this represents a coming of age for the man behind the moniker, Mike Hadreas. He has frustrated me over the years with all that promise and great individual tracks. Now he has delivered with a album full of quality cuts.
Album of the year? Too early to say, I think. Let’s listen back when the nights are drawing in and we will see how we feel then. But, undoubtedly, it will be a contender.
