Midnight at the Old Aces is my first novel. I’m incredibly proud of it. I originally self-published it as an e-book on amazon nearly seven years ago now and recently developed a paperback version. I’ve now updated the cover and formatting and have effectively relaunched the paperback.
It’s set in the City of London in 2008 – right in the middle of the biggest global economic meltdown since the great depression. Our hero, Derek Higson, is, like many others, significantly impacted. He’s a banker, but not the kind you read about in the papers. He’s not a high flier, just a normal guy trying to get by.
Unfortunately, the crash leaves him staring into the abyss of negative equity, unpayable debts and almost certain unemployment. In desperation, he has one last throw of the dice and decides to sell his soul to the Devil. Well, you would, wouldn’t you? His life is transformed, but there’s going to be payback sometime.
Despite that synopsis, Midnight at the Old Aces is, in fact, a comedy. A very dark one, but a comedy nonetheless. It’s fast paced, stylish, thrilling, horrific in parts, hilarious in others.
You can buy the kindle version very, very cheaply. Or, if you like something a little more tangible, you can get it in paperback. Either way, it’s available here: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Midnight-Old-Aces-Gordon-Rutherford/dp/B0841ZD65X/ref=tmm_pap_title_0?_encoding=UTF8&qid=1580759331&sr=8-1
I’d love you to read it. And I’d love to know what you think.
Thanks for listening.
Gordon.
